The WBA light-middleweight title was won by Miguel Cotto after clobbering the champion Yuri Foreman. Round nine at the Yankee Stadium was the chaotic clincher. Forman was clearly suffering with leg pain when his corner threw in the towel. The referee didn’t see who threw the towel and called a restart. Cotto said he felt for Foreman having to continue fighting.
Cotto’s new record is now 35-2 and this stoppage win is his 28th.

Cotto gave Foreman a lot of pressure early on the fight, he immediately showed Foreman what a former 3-time world champion can do. Foreman suffered a couple of falls on the seventh round that looked like they were slips but Cotto made use of it to make the kill in the eight round where Foreman’s corner threw the towel.

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum said Wednesday he’ll start talking to Mayweather’s camp “sooner rather than later” about matching the world’s top two welterweights for a Nov. 13 bout in either Las Vegas or Texas.

“That’s the fight people want to see, and that’s the fight I’m going to do my darnedest to make happen,” Arum said. “My first goal is to make that fight happen, but we’re not going to negotiate this thing in the press, because if we do, given the egos (involved), it’s never going to happen.”.

Sugar Ray Leonard, one of the great boxers of all time, said it would be too close to call if Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. ever get to face each other.

Ricky Hatton saves money on manager’s cut because he continues to manage himself. His dad Ray is his business adviser. ‘I don’t make a move without my dad saying,’ Hatton says. ‘When I first turned professional, I went to work for my dad. I was carpet fitting, and I was earning £150 to 200 a week. Then I turned pro at 18, and all of a sudden I was earning £3,000 (213,000 pesos) a fight.
